Taser Causes Death…

…not quite as often as falling off a building. From the NY Slimes:

Brooklyn Man Dies After Police Use a Taser Gun

Don’t you just love accurate headlines? They don’t mention the city street that smashed the guy’s head anywhere in the headline. It’s like the police zapped the guy to death. Sorry, I’m babling. Back to the story:

A naked and apparently emotionally disturbed man fell to his death from a building ledge in Brooklyn on Wednesday after an officer shot him with a Taser stun gun, the police said. The police and witnesses said he had been yelling at passers-by and swinging a long light bulb tube at officers before he fell.

The New York Post has some nice photos and a video of the incident. Of course you get a healthy dose of second guessing and Monday Morning Quarterbacking. I guess people would prefer the guy be left up there all naked and crazy and screaming, or maybe they would feel better if the police pushed him off the ledge instead of tasering him. I wonder if his light bulb lit up when they tasered him. I guess the moral of the story is don’t be naked and crazy on a New York building ledge; it could be harmful to your health. How would you have handled this guy?

  1. But you have to find the root cause. I don’t think the journalist did his homework. The police used the taser, so the police are the cause of death.

The headline should read, Police kill Brooklyn man.

  2. I wasn’t finished. The cops work for the city, so the city killed the guy. But the city is in a state, so the state killed him. But that state is in the US of A so the headline should read, America Kills Brooklyn man. the USA allows in it’s jurisdiction the state, which contains the city, that employed the cop, that tasered the man, who fell off a building. See how America is evil? America kills people.

  5. Flare, you have an interesting perspective, but ultimately it was one man that made a really bad judgment call. You taser a naked man perched on a building that is 10 feet away from a concrete ground. The police officer should have known that if he tasers this mentally ill man, that he will fall to his knees, unfortunately it was a little farther to the ground. BAD CHOICE.
